CHARITY GOLF DAY RAISES £2,100
On Friday 20th September 74 players took to the course at Crews Hill Golf Club to take part in the POETS’ September Golf Classic.
Once again the weather was kind to us, with the sun perhaps being a little too warm for those that ventured out onto the fairways and greens. Nevertheless, in the circumstances , there were some exceptional performances.
Sean O’Sullivan of the Tarmac team took the Peter Swain Memorial Trophy for the best score recorded by a guest. On a Stableford score of 41 he beat Adrian Bishop of the Brickability team by a single point.
The competition for the Ken Elner Memorial Trophy awarded to the highest placed POETS member

John McKenna and Gary Strahan both finished on 33 points, with Gary just pipping John on a count-back.
However John did not leave empty handed. His Powerday fourball finished top of the leaderboard in the team event. Finishing ahead of Drilltec and Tarmac they lifted the Brian Hurcombe Memorial Trophy.
There were also two ‘nearest the pin’ and two ‘longest drive’ contests.

On the the 7th green the nearest the pin sponsored by Tarmac was won by Ryan Smith.

On the 15th it was Dan Ambrose who took the prize, sponsored by Blücher.
On the 4th fairway Graham Ball hit an mammoth drive to carry off the prize sponsored by Slough Irish Club, whilst on the 11th hole, sponsored by Bespoke Brick Billy Shinners hit an equally impressive tee shot.
It was another fabulous day with a couple of new records being set. The attendance of 74 was the most ever to take part in a POETS’ golf day and £2,100 just edged ahead of the previous best for money raised at a golf day for our chosen charities.
