The POETS Luncheon Society are a group of like-minded individuals from the construction industry who organise lunches and other events. Their principal aims are to provide networking opportunities, to encourage and develop business relationships and, most important of all, fundraising for their chosen charities.

In these challenging times the charity sector is being particularly hard hit. The restrictions on gatherings have meant the cancellation of most planned charity events. The POETS themselves have had to cancel their scheduled lunches and re-arrange some of their biggest fundraisers.

The loss to UK charities, as a  result of the current coronavirus pandemic lockdown rules, could run to more than £4 billion. Many organisations are looking at alternative ways of raising money, but the future still looks bleak. With this in mind the POETS were pleased to be able to do their bit by delving into their charity fund, which had been swelled by a number of recent successful events. Treasurer Andy Wilson was able to send out payments to five charities to the total of £14,950. The recipients were the North London Hospice, Haven House Children's Hospice, Bowel Cancer UK, Marie Curie and the British Heart Foundation.

It is hoped that along with all the other passionate fundraisers all over the country the POETS will soon be back stronger and better, once the present crisis has passed. In the meantime we would like to say a really big thank you to all of our members and supporters who have worked so hard for the cause. We hope to see you all again in the not too distant future.
