Putting the Fun into FUNDRAISING!
In the last 10 years, thanks to the dedication of the members and the generous support of their guests, the POETS Luncheon Society has raised in excess of £25,000 for their chosen charities. Although we realise that raising money for charity is a serious business we see no reason why it can't be done with a smile on your face.

Our Charities

What we do?
The principal aim of the Poets has always been to bring people together, networking and socialising all rolled into one.
History of the POETS
Since its inaugural meeting at the Green Dragon Pub in Winchmore Hill on 25th January 1984 the POETS Luncheon Society has stayed true to its aims and principals. The organisation founded by Ken Elner of Blue Circle Cement, Len Stubbs of Rover Transport and Brian Hurcombe of London Concrete was started as a forum for members of the construction sector to discuss the state of trade and develop best practice within the industry. We would like to think that this still happens at today’s lunches and other events in a sociable, friendly atmosphere.

Over the years the buzzword ‘networking’ has become much used, but the POETS and other luncheon societies were encouraging it long before there was a word for it. In addition to their three lunches, now held at Da Francos Italian Restaurant in Friern Barnet the POETS also make an annual evening pilgrimage to the Floating Lotus Chinese Restaurant in London’s Docklands. This has become as popular as the well attended, always anticipated Christmas meal.
For the more active POETS and their guests there are regular charity golf days. Always keen to use the very best courses in and around London these days attract an ever increasing number of players of varying abilities. From single figure handicappers to novices, all are welcome.
The golf days make an invaluable contribution to the money that is raised for the POETS’ chosen charities. Since the very beginnings of the society fundraising has been integral to their activities. It is difficult to say for sure how much money has been donated over the lifetime of the POETS, but the last ten years have provided more than £25,000 in charity donations.
Over recent years many other luncheon societies have fallen by the wayside, but the POETS are delighted to still be around and seemingly going from strength to strength. Although a large part of this is due to its member’s commitment it is also the enthusiastic guests that have played their part. Thank you to all of those that have supported us.
